VESTAL: Personal and Domestic Cybersecurity at RECSI 2026

VESTAL: Personal and Domestic Cybersecurity at RECSI 2026

Within the framework of the 19th Spanish Meeting on Cryptology and Information Security (RECSI 2026), held at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife) from 17 to 21 March, PhD candidate Ángel Suárez-Bárcena, from the Security and Auditing Group (GSyA) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, presented progress on the VESTAL personal cybersecurity framework.

The work, entitled “VESTAL: A Holistic Framework for Personal Cybersecurity”, addresses the increasing exposure of citizens in digital environments and the lack of comprehensive solutions focused on the domestic sphere.

In this latest iteration, VESTAL consolidates its proposal as a model based on the NIST 2.0 standard, adapted and extended to the personal context. The framework establishes a continuous cycle of assessment, monitoring, and risk management, and incorporates a user-centred approach that takes into account profiles, behaviours, and specific needs.

It also integrates training and awareness as key elements for improving individuals’ cybersecurity.

The proposal was positively received by attendees, who highlighted its potential to strengthen citizens’ digital protection in an increasingly connected environment.
